01 / THE HOMES IN STIRLING

Why Stirling homeowners call us

Stirling was gazetted in 1970 and named after Sir James Stirling, the first Governor of Western Australia, with streets named after Western Australian pioneers to match. It is a compact suburb, 1.3 square kilometres at about 603 metres elevation, and 2,191 people lived here at the 2021 census.

Because the whole district was built out from the late 1960s, Stirling houses are all reaching the same milestones together. Frames have settled and doors catch. Plaster has cracked, been filled, and cracked again along the same line. Hardware is original in a lot of homes and simply worn out. Fences are past their design life, and the street trees that were planted with the suburb now drop enough leaf to fill a gutter in one autumn.

The old Weston Campus of Canberra College on Fremantle Drive closed in the early 2000s and the site is now the Hedley Beare Centre for Teaching and Learning, which keeps a bit of daytime traffic in an otherwise quiet suburb. Cooleman Court is a couple of minutes away in Weston, and our team is based across the parkway in Torrens.

02 / WHAT WE DO

Handyman services we offer in Stirling

The jobs we handle for homes and rentals in Stirling and the surrounding Weston Creek suburbs. If yours is not listed, call and ask.

Doors and Locks

A door that catches on the jamb in a fifty-year-old house is almost always the frame, not the door. We ease and re-hang, adjust or replace hinges, line strikers back up, fit deadbolts and handles, and get sliding and screen doors running again.

Gutter Cleaning and Repairs

Stirling is small and heavily planted, and the trees put down enough leaf each autumn to choke a downpipe. We clear the gutters, flush the pipes, refix brackets and tell you if a run has rusted rather than simply blocked.

Painting and Wall Repairs

Wall patching, plaster crack repairs, ceilings and full repaints inside or out. On a house from this era the work is 80% preparation, and skipping it is why the last paint job did not last.

Carpentry and Timber Repairs

Shelving, skirting, architraves, handrails, cupboard doors and outdoor timber. We repair the original joinery where it is sound and replace only the sections that have gone, matched to the existing profile.

Property Maintenance and Rental Turnovers

Stirling sits a few minutes from Cooleman Court, so rental stock here moves steadily. We work through the between-tenancy list in one attendance: exit-report items, make-good repairs, patching and touch-up painting, photographed and invoiced once.

Fencing, Gates and Outdoor Repairs

Original fences in this suburb are decades past their design life. We replace failed palings and rails, re-set or re-hang gates that no longer latch, and patch the paving that has lifted around them.

Pressure Washing and Driveway Cleaning

Driveways, paths, courtyards and external walls stripped back rather than rinsed. Stirling sits at around 600 metres elevation and holds frost through winter, which leaves the shaded concrete green and slick by the end of the season.

Small Jobs and Installations

TV brackets, shelving, blinds and curtain rails, fly screens, door stops, appliance installs and the tap washer nobody got around to. Give us the full list and our team clears it in one visit.

Stirling is surrounded by Holder and Weston to the north, Rivett and Chapman to the west, and Waramanga and Fisher to the east. We cover every suburb in Weston Creek.

04 / WHAT TO EXPECT

What you can expect

  • No travel surcharge. We are based in Torrens and work in Weston Creek most weeks, so a small suburb like Stirling is on the run rather than a special trip.
  • Fixed price, quoted before we start. Free quote for one repair or a full list, and the quoted number is the number on the invoice.
  • Insured and police cleared. Public liability insurance on every job and an ACT Working with Vulnerable People registration held.
  • Straight answers. If a job needs a licensed electrician, plumber or builder, we tell you upfront and point you the right way rather than taking it on.

STIRLING FAQ

Common questions from Stirling homeowners

Do you cover Stirling?

Yes. Stirling borders Weston, Waramanga, Holder, Rivett, Fisher and Chapman, all suburbs we work in regularly, and our base is a short drive east in Torrens. Call 0424 705 056 to confirm a time.

How old are the houses in Stirling?

Stirling was gazetted in 1970 along with the rest of the Weston Creek suburbs, so the original housing is now more than fifty years old. Settled door frames, plaster that cracks on the same seams, worn hardware and end-of-life fences are the standard list, and they are most of what we do here.

It is a small suburb. Is it worth you coming out for one job?

Yes. Stirling covers about 1.3 square kilometres and had 2,191 residents at the 2021 census, so it is one of the smaller suburbs in the district, but we are already in Weston Creek most weeks. There is no travel surcharge and no minimum beyond the quoted price for the job.

How much does a handyman job cost in Stirling?

Most jobs in the Canberra metro area, including Stirling and the rest of Weston Creek, are priced between $150 and $180 depending on scope and complexity. We quote a fixed price before booking anything in. Tell us what you need and we'll give you a number, no obligation.

Can you do several jobs in one visit?

Yes, and it usually costs less than separate callouts. Tell us the whole list when you call, including the small things, and our team works through as much as possible in a single visit on one invoice.

Do you work with landlords and property managers?

Yes. Between-tenancy work is regular for us across Weston Creek: exit-report items, patching, touch-up painting, fixture replacements and door adjustments. Send the report through and we quote the list as a whole.

Are you insured?

Yes. Public liability cover on every job, and we hold an ACT Working with Vulnerable People registration, which matters if you are booking for a family home or an elderly relative.

NEED A HANDYMAN IN STIRLING?

Small jobs and full lists both welcome. We're insured, we quote upfront, and we leave the site clean.
