Fisher dates from 1970 and is named after Andrew Fisher, the coal miner and founding member of the federal parliamentary Labor Party who served three terms as prime minister between 1908 and 1915. The streets are named after Australian mines and mining towns. At the 2021 census 3,219 people lived here, in a suburb of 1.6 square kilometres about 15 kilometres south-west of the city.
