Flat-pack furniture is cheap to buy and miserable to build. The instructions are wordless, half the dowels seem to go in the wrong way, and a wardrobe that should take an hour eats your whole Sunday. Polytechnitis assembles it for you: wardrobes, beds, desks, drawers, bookcases, outdoor settings, the lot. We bring our own tools, we read the diagram so you do not have to, and we take the cardboard away when the job is done.

More than just bolting it together
Assembly is the easy part. Doing it so the piece is safe and square is where it matters, so every Polytechnitis job covers these 5 things.

Tip-over is a real risk with tall, lightweight flat-packs, and the safe answer is to anchor bookcases, drawers, and wardrobes to the wall. We do that as standard on every job where it applies, not as an upsell.
Why pay someone to assemble furniture?
Plenty of people start a flat-pack themselves and call Polytechnitis halfway through. There is no shame in it. The usual reasons people hand it over:
- Time: a big wardrobe or bunk bed can swallow an afternoon, and we do it in a fraction of that
- Odd or missing parts: we carry the tools and fixings to work around them and finish the job
- The finish: doors aligned, drawers level, nothing wobbling or leaning
- Volume: a whole bedroom, nursery, or office worth of furniture done in one visit
What we don’t do
Polytechnitis builds what you have bought, and stops there.
- Sell or supply the furniture (you buy it, we build it)
- Custom-built cabinetry from raw timber, which is joinery, not flat-pack
- Removal of your old furniture as part of an assembly job (we can quote that separately)
One visit, multiple jobs done
New house, new furniture, and a list of other jobs? Polytechnitis can assemble the flat-packs and knock off the small jobs in the same visit: hang the TV, fit the blind brackets, mount the shelves, sort the sticking door.
Property managers and short-stay hosts call Polytechnitis to fit out a place between tenants, assembly, anchoring, and the general property maintenance in one booking. Do you assemble IKEA furniture in Canberra?
Yes. IKEA is the most common flat-pack Polytechnitis gets called for, from PAX wardrobes and BILLY bookcases to bed frames and kitchen units. We read the diagram so you do not have to, bring our own tools, and take the packaging away when we are done.
How much does flat pack assembly cost?
It depends on what you have and how much of it. A single bedside table is a quick job; a wall of wardrobes or a full home-office fit-out is a bigger one. Polytechnitis quote a fixed price before we start, so there are no surprises. Tell us the items, or send photos of the boxes, and we will give you a price.
Do you anchor furniture to the wall?
Yes, as standard on every job where it applies. Tall, lightweight flat-packs like bookcases, drawers, and wardrobes can tip, which is a genuine risk in a home with young children. We anchor them to the wall properly as part of the job, not as an extra you have to remember to ask for.
Can you assemble furniture from Kmart or Fantastic Furniture?
Yes. Kmart, Target, Fantastic Furniture, Amart, Bunnings, Officeworks, it does not matter to Polytechnitis where it came from. If it arrived in a flat box with a bag of screws, we will put it together.
Do you take the packaging away?
Yes. The cardboard, foam, and plastic that flat-packs come wrapped in fill a room fast, so Polytechnitis takes it away as part of the job. We clear it out and take it with us, so you are left with the finished furniture and a tidy space, not a pile of boxes by the bin.
Can you collect the furniture from the store?
Polytechnitis assembles in your home, so the furniture is usually delivered or picked up before we arrive. If collection is the sticking point, tell us when you call and we will let you know whether we can help or point you to a courier.
